LAND ART MUSEUM HESTØYA
The Land Art Museum Hestøya - project is an art project and an artist in residence-program that extends a global invitation for land artists worldwide to come and create unique works of land art on Hestøya, an island situated at Lund in the municipality of Namsos, Mid-Norway. The participating artists will together create a collection of land art that will blend in with the island's natural landscape. The project aims to transform the entire island of Hestøya into an international open-air museum dedicated to land art.
MISSION STATEMENT
LAND ART MUSEUM HESTØYA project is aiming to redefine the concept of a museum and create an international open-air museum devoted to land art on Hestøya island, located at Lund, in the municipality of Namsos, Mid-Norway.
ONLINE ARCHIVE AND GALLERY
In conjunction with the art collection on the island, there will be an online archive that showcase photography and film documentation of the art works and the processes of creating the art on the island.
WHY CURATE EVERYTHING ON AN ISLAND?
Today land art remains largely inaccessible to the general public due to the dispersed nature of its installations in remote locations. By creating a permanent exhibition of land art on the island of Hestøya, the museum and the art form can attract a broader audience. The project seeks to elevate land art as a medium and nature as a potent platform for artistic expression.
AN INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM
Through Land Art Museum, Hestøya we aspire to make you rethink the concept of a museum. By uniting our passion for art, nature, and environmental conservation we wish to make land art accessible to a wider audience. The project will emphasise the interconnectedness between art and nature and how art can inspire us to preserve and safeguard our natural heritage.
