Artist in residence programme for land artists
Join us on an exciting artist-in-residence program and help us transform the entire island of Hestøya, located at Lund in Mid-Norway, into an open-air museum for land art.
Juried selection of artists
A jury, consisting of the organisers as permanent members and rotating members from the fields of art, culture, and the local community, will select the participating artists for the programme.
Why Hestøya?
Hestøya offers a unique diversity of vegetation, a fusion of coastal and inland climates, a multitude of tree species, shoreline areas, varied terrain with rocks and diverse rock types, natural harbor basins, new and old forests as well as remains of former agricultural land. This ecological diversity makes the island ideal for this project.
The entire island at your disposal
Artworks can be created anywhere on the island, including its coastal and maritime areas. The works created are expected to have no adverse impact on the island's ecological habitat. They should be an integral part of the island's natural environment, evolving over time.
What does the residence include?
The residence period for each artist spans up to one month. The program encompasses the cover of local accommodation at Lund during the stay. Each artist will receive a monetary compensation for their contribution to the project upon the completion of their work.
Contract
Participating artists will formalise their commitment by signing a contract that outlines the terms of their involvement in the project. This contract includes an agreement to leave their completed artworks on the island, where they will become a permanent part of the exhibition and the museum.
Arrival
The nearest airport is Namsos town Airport, while the nearest major airport is Trondheim Airport Værnes. The closest train stations are in Steinkjer and Grong. From there, you can take a bus to Namsos and then proceed from Namsos to Lund. The drive from Namsos to Lund takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes (depending on the weather conditions).
Information about the Lund community in the Namsos municipality
